Frankie Knuckles “Godfather” Of House Music Dies At 59

Sad news today. Frankie Knuckles, known as the “godfather” of house music died unexpectedly in his Chicago home March 31. He was 59 years-old.

It is truly a sad day in Chi-town today. Legendary DJ and producer died March 31 in his Chicago home from unknown causes but some reports suggest it was from complications related to Type II Diabetes. Frankie Knuckles A true legend Frankie Knuckles is definitively the founder of house music.

Fredrick Dunson was Frankie’s business partner and discovered him in his home. He said that Frankie died “unexpectedly in his home.” More details surrounding his death will come out in the coming days according to the Chicago Tribune.

Frankie was born in the bronx in 1955. He moved to Chicago in the 70’s and started spinning at the Warehouse where house music was created. Mixing his own extended edits of disco, post-punk, R&B and synth-heavy Eurodisco he opened his own club Power Plant.

Frankie would go on to mix records by major artists like Whitney HoustonMichael Jackson, and Depeche Mode, as well as discover and create hits with Chicago artist Jamie Principle.
