Beyoncé takes us behind-the-scenes of her sexy 2014 Grammy performance. The performance caused quite a stir!
On Yonce’s recent tumblr purge she decided to take us through the process of creating the “Drunk In Love” performance. The performance seemed simple enough but as you can see their was a lot of thought behind it.
She worked closely with her choreographer to insure every step was just right. The confidence was oozing from Beyoncé even before wowing Grammy performance!
Kendrick Lamar had the snub heard around the world. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won a total of four awards Sunday night. Three of those awards were in the rap category which had the hip hop community up in arms! Perhaps the most shocking was Macklemore’s win for best new artist. Everyone including Macklemore himself felt that Kendrick was robbed and promoted him to send a text saying, ”you got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and it sucks that I robbed you.”
Kendrick recently sat with XXL Magazine to give his two cents on Macklemore tell the hip hop magazine that he deserved the win.
“It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”
Although Kendrick understands the politics of the Grammys, he does feel that Hip Hop does need better representation as a whole.
“We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”
India.Arie took to her blog to take out some frustration she was having about the Grammys. In the letter she spoke about the Macklemore/Kendrick Lamar upset. She also spoke about the lack of African-American presence during the award show.
@Kendricklamar WAS robbed, BUT he was not the only one who was robbed. Personally, I was pleased he was able to perform and they KILLED! IT! One of the FEW moving moments of the night for ME.
Though it’s called “Music industries biggest night” the #Grammys are NOT about the music, it’s a popularity contest. The voting process allows people, to vote on name recognition alone – the music industry politics is a whole NUTHER conversation. Too much to go into here.
The American Music Awards is a show that awards sales and popularity – the #Grammys are SAID to be about the music.
If the hip hop community voted on hip hop – r&b COMMUNITY the same – same for each category – we’d see winners that reflect the MUSIC ITSELF. We all know that’s just not the way it goes.
NOW the BIGGER losers, are ALL of black music. Where was the black music community represented in last nights #Grammy show? Performers and Winners (or not) … Where were the black artists?
And this isn’t the first time the #Grammy’s has had a show all but excluding young black America and black artists in general, although we set the worlds musical trends. Why NOT televise the lifetime achievement awards of the Isley Brothers? SURELY they deserved to be on televised stage LAST NIGHT! While other artists were on stage TWICE?
The truth is in a perfect world diversity would matter, and respect would be rampant, but the TRUTH is, The #Grammys is a television show, and in THAT world ratings reign supreme. So, in general, bigger names take the stage, and sadly the biggest names often times ARE BIGGER drawn along racial lines from the release of an album. i.e. marketing dollars, and just general support. It’s unfortunate.
I don’t even get surprised any more, but, it still hits my sense of fairness, because I KNOW many of the artists who are overlooked. I LIVE in that world. We keep showing up and subjecting ourselves to the game, hoping MAYBE we’ll win. I was so HAPPY to see @Kendricklamar take that stage – because it is a FORM of winning, at LEAST, he was SEEN.
Speaking of diversity, congratulations to my PERSONAL favorite albums of the year – @I_GregoryPorter #LiquidSpirit @Realsnarkypuppy and @lalahhathaway on your win and THANK YOU! @pharrell for acting RIGHT in the presence of the greatness that is @Nilerodgers and #StevieWonder
Love to all #SoulBirdsWorldWide
P.S. No mention of Nelson Mandela at ALL? … and THIS is why we NEED the Image Awards AND the BET awards.
What do you think about this? Do you agree or do you think this is a cry for attention?
Daft Punk gave an awesome performance that had everyone out their seats at the Grammys! The robotic duo was joined by Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, and the legendary Stevie Wonder! In case you missed it watch it here below!
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis swept the Grammys Sunday night! They one a total of four awards that night. Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for Thrift Shop” and Best Rap Album for “Heist”
The duo also won Best New Artist. The biggest upset of the night! The world was stunned that fellow nominee Kendrick Lamar didn’t take home the golden trophy. Well, Macklemore felt the same way.
Macklemore sent Kendrick a text stating that “You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and it sucks that I robbed you.” Kendrick’s highly acclaimed album , Good Kid, m.A.A.d City, was nominatedin several categories but won nothing.
Mackelmore posted the text on his instagram with the caption, “My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys.”
