Paula Deen does it again!
Uncle Bubba’s Seafood & Oyster House has officially closed it door. You could imagine the employees shock when they showed up for work and found out that they no longer have jobs!
That’s right no warning, no meeting, no phone call! TMZ is reporting that workers showed up yesterday (April, 3) morning only to find the sign down and appliances being removed.
The only notice was given on their Facebook page which is a complete slap in face to the workers. You tell your Facebook fans before you would tell the people who actually worked for you. “Thank you for 10 great years. Uncle Bubba’s is now closed.” Shade! Many of the workers have left some pretty nasty messages on the page after they found out.
Paula Deen’s rep confirmed the closing of Uncle Bubba’s. “Since its opening in 2004, Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House has been a destination for residents and tourists in Savannah, offering the region’s freshest seafood and oysters,” the rep said in a statement to Us. “However, the restaurant’s owner and operator, Bubba Hiers, has made the decision to close the restaurant in order to explore development options for the waterfront property on which the restaurant is located. At this point, no specific plans have been announced and a range of uses are under consideration in order realize the highest and best use for the property.”
“The closing is effective today, Thursday, April 3, 2014,” the statement continued. “Employees will be provided with severance based on position and tenure with the restaurant. All effort will be made to find employees comparable employment with other Savannah restaurant organizations.”
Apparently workers where also given a business card with a list of restaurants hiring in the area.
An employee tell TMZ they were paid through Wednesday and got vacation pay along with two weeks severance. The employee said the whole ordeal was particularly hurtful, since so many staffers stuck up for the Deen family during the controversy — some patrons through food at them and they still defended Paula.
I’m not sure how she is going to turn this one around in her favor? Looks like that come back might have to be put on the back burner!
